Our Story
It all started in 1882 when Gil Minor Jr. Started the Owens & Minor Drug Company in Richmond.
In the Seventies, O&M went public and started trading on the New York Stock Exchange, In 1992 the decision was made to sell of the drug business and the corporate strategy changed towards growing Services and investing in Acquisitions. Couple of years later (in 2002), the first private label line (Medichoice) was created. Owens & Minor continued its acquisition strategy with one of the milestones being the acquisition of Arc Royal in 2014.
Arc Royal (those days still called DeRoyal) started in 1992 with opening its Kells facility in Ireland. Over the years, DeRoyal went from being a direct seller to a service provider . In 2014, Arc Royal got acquired by Owens & Minor and being their first manufacturing site in Europe, Arc Royal plays a crucial role in our current business strategy.
Another key milestone for Owens & Minor, was the acquisition of Halyard Health in 2018. Although Halyard Health is a relatively new name in the medical business, it has a long history as part of Kimberly Clark. Founded in 1870, Kimberly Clark played an important role in the development of medical products, driven by inventing and producing SMS material as from 1978 onwards. Over the next couple of years, Kimberly Clark Healthcare continued to increase its footprint in the acute care segment by adding more products families to its product range.
