PPE Preparedness

Are you prepared for an infectious
disease outbreak?

Timeline of outbreaks and pandemics

As winter approaches, healthcare systems are bracing for increased strain due to the simultaneous circulation of respiratory viruses - including influenza, RSV, and the ongoing low-level transmission of SARS-CoV-2. In this evolving landscape, proactive protection is essential to safeguard both healthcare professionals and patients.

Why choose HALYARD* for pandemic protection?

Donning and doffing your gown

Correct technique matters as much as the PPE itself. Improper removal can transfer contamination even after a gown has done its job. Follow this step-by-step guide to gowning correctly, every time:

DONNING
Put on the gown1

Put on the gown

Put the gown on with the opening at the back, sliding both arms into the sleeves.

Hands into the cuffs2

Hands into the cuffs

Bring your hands through the knit cuffs so they sit snugly at the wrists.

Secure the gown3

Secure the gown

Fasten the gown at the neck and waist.

Ensure full coverage4

Ensure full coverage

Check the gown covers you from the neck to the knees, with no gaps or loose ties.

Final check: The gown should provide full front coverage, from the neck to the knees.
DOFFING
Break the ties1

Break the ties

Insert your thumbs between the gown's front tie tabs and pull forward to snap them, with no need to reach behind you.

Pull the gown forward2

Pull the gown forward

Grasp the gown at the front waist with both hands and peel it forward off your shoulders, away from your body.

Roll it inside out3

Roll it inside out

While removing the gown, fold or roll it inside out into a bundle.

Remove gloves with the gown4

Remove gloves with the gown

Peel off your gloves as you remove the gown, touching only the inside of the gloves and gown with bare hands.

Disposal: Dispose of the gown according to your facility's PPE disposal requirements.
