Donning and doffing your gown
Correct technique matters as much as the PPE itself. Improper removal can transfer contamination even after a gown has done its job. Follow this step-by-step guide to gowning correctly, every time:
1Put on the gown
Put the gown on with the opening at the back, sliding both arms into the sleeves.
2Hands into the cuffs
Bring your hands through the knit cuffs so they sit snugly at the wrists.
3Secure the gown
Fasten the gown at the neck and waist.
4Ensure full coverage
Check the gown covers you from the neck to the knees, with no gaps or loose ties.
1Break the ties
Insert your thumbs between the gown's front tie tabs and pull forward to snap them, with no need to reach behind you.
2Pull the gown forward
Grasp the gown at the front waist with both hands and peel it forward off your shoulders, away from your body.
3Roll it inside out
While removing the gown, fold or roll it inside out into a bundle.
4Remove gloves with the gown
Peel off your gloves as you remove the gown, touching only the inside of the gloves and gown with bare hands.
The benefits of being prepared
Having enough PPE on hand from the start of an outbreak will help protect employees, keep staff on the job, and give teams confidence to perform at their highest level. Proactive PPE planning also helps prevent infection spread to patients, visitors, and staff. You can count on HALYARD* to help you prepare and stay ready during any pandemic event or infectious disease outbreak.
